Your Role and Responsibilities

We are now looking for a new R&D Laboratory Lead to join our team at ABB Distribution Solutions in Vaasa, Finland. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the system testing laboratory, ensuring efficient daily operations, and driving its continuous development. As we relocate to new premises, you will take charge of all aspects related to software testing, making sure the transition occurs as smoothly and consistently as possible.

Additionally, you will work closely with our software development teams, global system testing groups, various test areas, and other stakeholders involved in system testing. We are currently in an era of digital transformation, and our R&D organization is quickly evolving. This progress is creating promising opportunities to take on greater responsibilities in the near future.

You will mainly be accountable for:

Operational responsibilities
  • Leading daily system testing operations and ensuring efficiency

  • Coordinating local testing activities across teams and domains

  • Ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards beyond baseline requirements

  • Managing the relocation of software testing labs to a new consolidated location, ensuring continuity

Development responsibilities
  • Translating and combining strategy and product roadmaps into a practical lab roadmap

  • Driving continuous improvement and preparing for automation readiness

Qualifications for the Role
  • BSc or MSc from a relevant field, such as engineering
  • Some years of hands-on electrical work experience
  • Solid understanding of software testing processes and test automation fundamentals
  • Electrical design know-how and practical experience with electrical systems
  • Familiarity with DS products and interest in software development
  • Systematic and structured approach with clear communication
  • Experience in leading teams and openness to change and continuous improvement
  • Pragmatic problem-solver who enjoys making labs run smoothly
  • Fluency in Finnish and English both written and spoken
  • Electrical qualification (S1 or S2) is considered a benefit
