PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing heath challenges.

About the Project

India’s urban population is growing rapidly, and by 2050 it will reach 877 million—nearly two-thirds of the country’s population. The concentration of people in urban and peri-urban settings, coupled with environmental pressures and evolving disease patterns, demands robust surveillance systems capable of early detection and rapid response. PATH is working to strengthen urban and peri-urban disease surveillance, with a particular focus on strengthening surveillance in peri-urban areas for the early detection of outbreaks and timely initiation of response. Under this goal, PATH will support the intervention cities of Patna and Nagpur by strengthening surveillance infrastructure, enhancing data quality and reporting, improving preparedness for future disease threats, and fostering multisectoral coordination across human, animal, and environmental health domains.

About the Position

PATH is seeking a Program Coordinator for Nagpur to provide operational and field-level support for the implementation of surveillance strengthening activities (in urban and peri-urban areas). Working under the supervision of the Program Officer (Urban Health), with overall guidance from the City Lead – Surveillance, the coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of field activities, including facility-level follow-up, documentation, and stakeholder liaison. This is a hands-on role that requires regular visits to urban and peri-urban primary healthcare facilities and strong coordination with city-level health systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day implementation of urban and peri-urban surveillance activities in Nagpur, ensuring timely execution of planned field activities under the guidance of the Program Officer and City Lead.

  • Coordinate field visits, supportive supervision schedules, and follow-up actions with urban health facilities, surveillance units, and frontline health functionaries.

  • Provide operational support for GIS data collection activities, including facility geo-tagging, and updating location-based information as assigned.

  • Assist in facility-level verification of IHIP reporting, documentation of quality aspects, and compilation of observations for review by the Program Officer.

  • Support facility-based supply chain assessments through storage practices, and logistics using standardized assessment tools.

  • Facilitate logistics and field coordination for training, workshops, supportive supervision visits, and other program events, including participant coordination and documentation.

  • Support implementation of City Action Plans by maintaining activity trackers, coordinating meetings, documenting progress, and following up on agreed action points.

  • Coordinate with health facilities and field surveillance teams to facilitate smooth execution of planned project activities and field-level communication.

  • Assist during outbreak investigations and emergency response activities through coordination, and documentation, as required.

  • Maintain project documentation, including field reports, activity trackers, meeting minutes, attendance records, and other implementation records.

  • Compile routine implementation updates, field progress reports, and data summaries for submission to the Program Officer and City Lead.

  • Perform any other program-related responsibilities assigned by the supervisor to support timely and effective implementation of project activities.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • BDS/ BAMS/ BHMS/ BVSc with a master’s in public health (MPH), Epidemiology, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (DPH) / Health Management.

  • 1-2 years of professional experience in urban primary healthcare, disease surveillance, public health programme implementation, or health systems strengthening.

  • Experience of working in Bihar or comparable urban and peri-urban settings is preferred.

  • Field experience in facility-level data collection, community engagement, or health programme logistics.

  • Familiarity with the Indian public health system, key stakeholders, and relevant government policies and strategies, particularly NHM, NUHM, Ayushman Bharat, and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.

  • Experience of working with INGOs, state/district surveillance units, or government health programmes will be an added advantage.
