Why this role matters?

  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, and governance improvements that strengthen compliance performance and support proactive managed compliance through QA/QC frameworks.

  • Manage multiple concurrent workstreams or projects, depending on client complexity, while maintaining quality, budget, and timeline commitments.

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, regulators, and cross-functional teams across operations, risk, legal, sustainability, and HSE.

  • Build a capable CDH-SSO team by coaching junior team members through project delivery, onboarding, learning initiatives, and practice-building activities.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, occupational health and safety, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered.

  • Typically, 10–15+ years of relevant experience in consulting, operational compliance, regulatory compliance, environmental management, or a related advisory role.

  • Experience in operational compliance, EHS, or sustainability consulting, with strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and operational requirements across air, water, waste, chemicals, reporting, due diligence, impact assessment, and remediation.

  • Proven ability to lead workstreams, proposals, and end-to-end projects while managing scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and small teams.

  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs with a QA/QC mindset.

  • Experience working with global teams, diverse industries, and cross-functional stakeholders, with leadership skills and executive presence.

  • Strong analytical skills to translate regulatory complexity into structured, actionable solutions.

  • Experience with compliance platforms such as legal registers, compliance calendars, obligation trackers, Enablon, or Sphera.

Preferred qualifications, skills & competencies

  • PhD or master’s degree in environmental management, sustainability, EHS, environmental policy, or a related field.

  • Specialist experience in operational compliance, EHS auditing, regulatory reporting, permitting, or emissions calculations.

  • Experience using digital, automation, or AI-enabled tools to improve compliance delivery.

  • Working knowledge of US- NA/EMEA region, multi-state, or international EHS regulatory frameworks.

  • Professional certifications or training such as CEP, QEP, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or equivalent.

  • Experience in global delivery set-up or large consulting environments, with commercial acumen and comfort managing ambiguity.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead environmental permitting, air compliance, and broader operational compliance programs, including regulatory analysis, permitting strategies, compliance assessments, and risk identification across air, water, waste, chemicals, occupational/process safety, and related EHS domains.

  • Interpret and apply US-anchored, specifically NA and EMEA, and international EHS regulatory frameworks, like Clean Air Act, RCRA, Clean Water Act/NPDES, SPCC, EPCRA, TSCA, CERCLA, OSHA requirements, applicable state and international regulations, and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards.

  • Deliver complex, high-impact engagements by managing scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, quality, and multidisciplinary workstreams while maintaining clear team expectations and exceptional client delivery.

  • Provide QA/QC review of technical deliverables, recommend and track corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement through standardization, SOPs, templates, best practices, and innovative delivery models.

  • Implement and support compliance platforms and digital tools, and develop dashboards, compliance trackers, and reporting frameworks aligned to operational compliance processes.

  • Build trusted client relationships, present deliverables, support proposal development, participate in client-development activities, and contribute to growth of Operational Compliance service offerings.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop consultants and analysts, including junior team members, through project delivery, routine meetings, onboarding, learning initiatives, knowledge sharing, and capability development.
