Our Consulting Delivery Hub (CDH) in India is a critical part of ERM’s global consulting model enabling scalable, high-quality delivery across regions and service lines. CDH teams work in close partnership with regional consultants to support global client projects, providing specialist expertise, driving consistency, and enhancing delivery efficiency across our most important programmes.

As part of the Consulting Delivery Hub, you will collaborate with colleagues worldwide, contribute to complex sustainability projects, and play a key role in shaping the future of global consulting delivery.

Why this role matters?

As a Hydrology Consultant, you will support ERM's global renewable energy and infrastructure projects by delivering high-quality hydrology, hydrogeology, and water environment assessments that inform sustainable project development and environmental decision-making. Working closely with ERM consultants, engineers, ecologists, and project teams across the UK and Ireland, you will contribute to environmental impact assessments, planning applications, and permitting processes for complex projects. This role is critical in helping clients manage water-related risks, meet regulatory requirements, and develop projects that protect water resources, ecosystems, and surrounding communities while enabling efficient and scalable project delivery through ERM's Consulting Delivery Hub.

  • Deliver high-quality hydrology and hydrogeology assessments, reports, and technical appendices that support planning, permitting, and environmental compliance requirements.

  • Contribute to the successful development of renewable energy and infrastructure projects by identifying and assessing potential water-related impacts and risks.

  • Produce clear, defensible, and regulator-ready technical documentation that supports informed client and stakeholder decision-making.

  • Apply rigorous technical review and quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including ecologists, hydrogeologists, engineers, and environmental specialists to integrate water environment considerations into project design.

  • Support the efficient delivery of global consulting projects by managing technical tasks, meeting project deadlines, and maintaining high-quality standards.

What will you bring?

  • Degree in hydrology, or related discipline.

  • Excellent report writing skills and experience delivering hydrology and hydrogeology environmental impact assessment (EIA) chapters and associated technical studies.

  • Familiarity with UK wide (Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and Irish water related legislation, planning policy, local authority planning policy and guidance, and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience in renewables projects, including onshore wind, electricity transmission infrastructure, solar, and hydrogen with knowledge of planning and environmental requirements.

  • Strong data interpretation skills.

  • Ability to manage tasks independently and work on multiple projects at a time.

Preferred skills & competencies

  • Experience in writing flood risk assessments (FRA) including peak flow estimation using the appropriate UK methodologies and hydraulic modelling.

  • Experience using GIS (ArcPro) for spatial analysis, mapping, and surface water modelling.

  • Document and collaboration tools (MS Office Suite, SharePoint).

Key responsibilities

  • Writing hydrology and hydrogeology EIA chapters and associated technical appendices ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and client requirements.

  • Associated technical appendices include:

    • Groundwater Dependent Terrestrial Ecosystems (GWDTE) risk assessments;

    • Private water supply risk assessments;

    • Watercourse Crossing Inventories;

    • Water Quality Monitoring Reports; and

    • Water Framework Directive assessments.

  • Support scoping and baseline data collection for surface water and groundwater.

  • Liaise with ecologists, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, and engineers to integrate water considerations into project design.

  • Prepare clear, defensible documentation for planning and permitting processes.
