About Karya:
Why was Karya on the cover of the Time Magazine , highlighted by Satya Nadella , and invited to present its work to Sundar Pichai one on one?
In part, because Karya is on a mission to provide AI enabled earning and learning opportunities to communities with high talent, but low access to opportunities. Karya achieves this while also delivering high quality, timely, and price competitive data to its clients.
Karya builds high quality datasets for large companies like Google and Microsoft, while providing ethical work opportunities and fair wages to its workforce.
Karya’s workers make nearly 20 times the Indian minimum wage and through our one-of-a-kind digital work platform, we have delivered over 40 million digital tasks and have positively impacted over 100 thousand workers. In the coming years, our goal is to rapidly scale our impact by bringing economic opportunities to millions of underserved users in India. With a rapidly growing global presence, we are also looking to expand our client base in the Indian market by partnering with leading Indian enterprises.
About the Role:
Karya is looking for a graphic design–led motion designer who thinks in layouts, systems, and visual clarity first — and uses motion as a tool to enhance understanding and storytelling.
This is not a videography or filming role. We’re looking for someone grounded in visual design, typography, composition, and information hierarchy, who can translate static ideas into clear, lightweight motion.
You’ll work across two core areas:
Learning & Instructional Design: Motion-led training content for rural, multilingual, and first-time smartphone users
Brand & Storytelling: Explainers, motion systems, and visual narratives for partners, funders, and public-facing communication
This role sits within the Storytelling Team and works closely with Product Design, Instructional Design, and Brand.
What You’ll Do
Design storyboards, frames, and visual systems before animating.
Create motion-first learning content: static + audio videos, simple animations, voiceover-led explainers, and walkthroughs
Translate scripts and concepts into clear visual sequences using layout, iconography, type, and motion
Develop reusable motion templates and systems aligned with Karya’s brand
Collaborate with:
Content writers, translators, and instructional designers for clarity and accessibility
Product and learning teams to ensure content reflects real user needs
Design and brand teams to maintain visual consistency across motion assets
Iterate quickly — low fidelity first, refined through testing and feedback
Design for clarity over cleverness, especially for low-literacy or first-time digital users
What You Bring
2+ years of experience in graphic design with a strong motion design component
A solid foundation in:
Layout and visual hierarchy
Typography and iconography
Storyboarding and information design
Ability to simplify complex ideas visually before animating them
Comfort with tools such as:
After Effects (primary)
Illustrator / Figma / Canva (for design-first workflows)
Premiere Pro (basic edits only — not film-heavy)
Familiarity with lightweight animation formats (Lottie, simple transitions, frame-based motion)
Curiosity about how people learn visually and cognitively
Nice to Have
Experience designing for low-literacy, multilingual, or rural audiences
Background in ed-tech, public-interest tech, or non-profits
Comfort experimenting with AI-assisted design tools (image generation, rapid prototyping)
Knowledge of Indian languages or regional media contexts
What This Role Is Not
Not a videography or filming role
Not focused on complex character animation or cinematic storytelling
Not social-media-first motion for trends or reels alone
This role is about design clarity, systems thinking, and purposeful motion.
Why This Role Matters
Karya’s work reaches people often excluded from mainstream design and technology. Motion design here isn’t decoration — it’s infrastructure. Your work will shape how people learn new skills, understand digital tools, and engage with AI-enabled work for the first time.
What We Offer
Flexible leave and vacation policy
Remote / hybrid work options
Insurance as per industry standards
Access to leaders in technology and social impact
Meaningful work at the intersection of AI, design, and equity
Karya celebrates diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered without regard to race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected status.
