FUNCTION SUMMARY (Overview and overall objectives of the position)

 

In an agile R&D development environment, the incumbent carries out the design and software programming as part of the maintenance and development of new software for new products related to the test and measurement market. The incumbent works in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a state-of-the-art environment.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List the main tasks involved in performing the work)

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • System Requirements and Features:
    • Contribute to the development of the Product Backlog and the Sprint Backlog
    • Work with Product Owner /Product Managers and UX team to create the backlog, designs respectively
    • Participate in Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retro meetings;
  • Architecture :
    • Contribute to the definition of the optimal architecture of the software;
    • Choose programming languages, libraries and other technologies for the Front End software;
    • Define and deploy a continuous integration and refactoring strategy, in collaboration with the DevOps team;
  • Product Design:
    • Support the iterative design of the Front End of complete web software in collaboration with the Back End team;
    • Identify and develop web application subsystems critical to the success of the project;
    • Integration with backend layer and adequate automate integration testing from UI.
    • Manage and ensure backward compatibility of the software;
    • Manage the technical risks of development under his/her responsibility;
    • Manage cybersecurity risks and implement necessary measures;
    • Work with the backend development team in refinement of the interfaces and payload contracts needed in the APIs
    • Participate in the layout of the site and user interfaces according to current practices and state-of-the-art technologies (ReactJS, Angular, etc.);
    • Implement  effective Code Reviews for the team;
    • Participate in Daily Scrum Meetings (DSM);
  • Product verification and validation:
    • Guide the team in the development of the Definition of Done for the product;
    • Ensure that the design meets the expectations of the Definition of Done at the end of each Sprint;
    • Maintain code quality through best practices, unit testing and code quality automation, reporting the status on dashboards like SonarQube, Cypress,Jest etc
    • Ensure the implementation and execution of automated tests in the continuous integration environment;
    • Ensure the development of diagnostic tools (Spy);
    • Work to continuously reduce the software quality debt;
    • Working knowledge of integration with Static code analysis,Dynamic code analysis, Defence in Depth testing to ensure security vulnerabilities are within control.
  • Transfer to production:
    • Contribute with the project manager and the DevOps team to the planning of the work required for the transfer to production;
    • Generate code documentation for the support team (if needed) based on the deliverables .

 

General Responsibilities

 

  • Contribute to technology monitoring in order to maintain our leadership position by integrating cutting-edge tools and technologies into our product developments;
  • Be on the lookout for good development practices, recommend improvements and work to standardize our work methods;
  • Contribute to the training and sharing of knowledge on new technologies likely to meet the needs of our developments;
  • Be an internal reference in his/her field in terms of working methods and technologies;
  • Collaborate with the various stakeholders to resolve inter-departmental technical problems;
  • Ensure compliance with the rights to use integrated technologies;
  • Define function-specific indicators (effectiveness, efficiency, quality), measure, interpret, communicate and respond to them;
  • Support less experienced software designers working on the same project.

 

Be involved and actively participate in the development and implementation of the culture of continuous improvement.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (To perform the work effectively, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below reflect the required training, knowledge, skills and abilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform primary duties.)

 

Technical skills:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent;
  • Master’s degree in a related field, an asset;
  • 10 or more years of experience in web design/Front end  
  • Experienced in Agile Development framework/SaFe Agile/Scrum
  • Ability to program in HTML, JavaScript, Angular and NodeJS;
  • Ability to program in React and VueJS an asset. Ability earn and adopt any new framework will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of CSS and SASS technologies;
  • Proficiency in a decentralized version control tool (git);
  • Knowledge of WebGL;
  • Knowledge of Azure Cloud environment, Docker;
  • Knowledge of REST Web Services design/Microservices
  • Knowledge of Microfrontend is an added advantage
  • Experience in integrating open source libraries into a commercial product and understanding of the risks associated with each type of license;
  • Knowledge of Design Patterns;
  • Knowledge of schematic representation (UML) is an asset;
  • Have played a leadership role in all stages of the life cycle of commercially successful web software;
  • Stay up to date with new technologies and software development methods;
  • Good knowledge of test and measurement applications;
  • Intermediate English.
