This role does not have direct GE Vernova software engineering reports, but is fully accountable for engineering execution, product quality, delivery performance, and continuous improvement across contractor-led engineering teams. The leader will work closely on a daily basis with the contractor Engineering Manager(s) supporting eTerra Platform product suite to ensure execution aligns with product, quality, architecture, and business objectives.
This position requires a strong engineering leader who combines Agile delivery expertise, operational rigor, technical judgment, and quality discipline.
A key aspect of this role is modernizing software delivery practices, including the responsible use of AI-enabled development capabilities across the software development lifecycle. The leader will help ensure contractor teams adopt effective engineering practices, automation, and AI-assisted delivery approaches to improve quality, increase productivity, and accelerate customer value delivery. This role is essential to achieving our Zero-D quality goals, meeting customer commitments, and enabling expansion into new Grid Software markets.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day engineering outcomes for the eTerra Platform products, including delivery execution, product quality, technical coordination, and release readiness.
- Lead through contractor engineering teams and vendor engineering management, ensuring accountability for commitments, engineering standards, and business results without direct line management authority.
- Partner daily with the contractor Engineering Manager(s) to drive execution, remove blockers, manage priorities, and ensure alignment to roadmap, architecture, and customer delivery commitments.
- Establish, govern, and continuously improve engineering operating mechanisms for quarterly planning, sprint execution, capacity planning, dependency management, risk tracking, and reporting, with a strong focus on OTD performance.
- Serve as the engineering leader responsible for delivery transparency, execution predictability, and operational rigor across both products.
- Champion Agile software development practices, ensuring teams apply effective planning, backlog refinement, estimation, prioritization, demos, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
- Drive adoption of modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, quality gates, secure development, observability, and DevOps discipline across contractor teams.
- Lead the use of AI-assisted software development practices across the engineering lifecycle—including requirements support, code generation assistance, test creation, defect analysis, documentation, and developer productivity workflows—while ensuring appropriate governance, quality, and security.
- Set expectations and inspect results for measurable year-over-year productivity improvements, including a target of 30% or greater improvement through process discipline, automation, AI enablement, and waste reduction.
- Partner with Product Management, Program Management, Architecture, Quality, and Services teams to ensure engineering execution supports strategic business priorities and customer commitments.
- Ensure Platform evolve effectively as part of GE Vernova’s hybrid Grid Software strategy, supporting integration with GridOS capabilities where appropriate.
- Improve software quality and customer outcomes by driving root cause analysis, defect prevention, test effectiveness, release quality, and closed-loop learning across teams.
- Lead engineering readiness for customer deliverables, ensuring appropriate planning, resourcing, technical execution, issue resolution, and escalation management.
- Contribute to engineering strategy, delivery governance, and organizational standards for outsourced and hybrid development models.
- Act as a strong cross-functional leader who influences across internal teams and external partners to deliver results in a complex product environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited university or college.
- Significant experience in software engineering, software delivery, or engineering management in a commercial or industrial software environment.
- Experience leading software delivery through external partners, contractors, or outsourced development teams, with demonstrated accountability for outcomes.
- Strong experience in Agile software development methodologies, including planning, execution management, backlog governance, and continuous improvement.
- Experience managing software delivery across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, release, and sustaining engineering.
- Demonstrated experience driving engineering execution for complex software products with customer-facing delivery commitments.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across organizational and company boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to improve engineering predictability, delivery performance, and quality outcomes.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience in enterprise software, grid software, energy software, industrial software, or other mission-critical product environments.
- Understanding of hybrid software modernization strategies, including integration of legacy or heritage platforms with cloud-native or next-generation product platforms.
- Experience implementing modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated regression testing, release automation, DevOps, and software quality metrics.
- Experience applying AI-enabled development tools and practices across the software development lifecycle, with an understanding of governance, security, and quality considerations.
- Demonstrated success improving productivity, engineering efficiency, and product quality across distributed or partner-led teams.
- Strong knowledge of software quality management, defect prevention, root cause analysis, and customer-focused release readiness.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment with moderate autonomy and high accountability.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive-level status reporting and operational reviews.
- Proven ability to identify risks early, drive resolution, and build alignment across product, engineering, and services stakeholders.
