Job Description

About Busuu

Busuu is one of the world's leading language-learning platforms, part of Chegg. We help over 100 million learners build language skills that change their lives — through apps, web, and now an AI-first product experience. We operate across consumer (B2C) and business (B2B/enterprise) markets in over 100 countries

.

About Decision Intelligence

Decision Intelligence (DI) is the central capability that makes the business measurable, governed, and trusted. It spans data insights and analytics across the organization, operating through three layers: analytics partners embedded in business teams, a central hub that owns standards, metrics architecture, experimentation, and governance, and a platform layer (Data Engineering) that builds the infrastructure.

DI does not govern business decisions — it governs the standards that make those decisions trustworthy and evidence-based. We don't build dashboards on request; we build the foundations teams build on. We work hybrid with team members across India, the UK, and the EU.

The Role

You are the operational backbone of Busuu's Decision Intelligence function. As Head of Decision Intelligence, you anchor business-wide strategic intelligence, run the hub day-to-day, manage and develop analytics leaders as a player-coach, and own the methodology behind Busuu's weekly business performance reporting and monthly leadership reviews.

You operate as a player-coach: you lead capability work in the hub, grow direct reports across the organization, and continue to contribute hands-on to strategic analytics work. You partner with senior analytics stakeholders on metrics architecture and strategy, with the Director on hub direction, and with business leaders on analytics-driven narratives.

The role is the connective tissue of the function — turning measurement into operating decisions across the business. It is also a role with a clear trajectory: the right person grows into broader strategic leadership scope over time as the function scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business-wide strategic owner — anchor cross-functional business narrative, deep-dives, and performance readouts. Be the credible analytics voice in leadership forums and key business meetings.

  • Player-coach for direct reports — Develop 3-4 analytics leaders on craft, level progression, and strategic partnership capability. Balance coaching and mentorship with your own hands-on strategic analytics contributions.

  • Weekly business performance reporting — design, narrative arc, and analytical integrity of weekly business performance summaries.

  • Monthly leadership review architecture — partner with senior analytics stakeholders on monthly business review structure; you own the weekly-to-monthly narrative connection.

  • Experimentation standards — co-build testing rigor and best practices across the organization.

  • Hub operations — day-to-day leadership of the analytics hub as the synthesis layer that makes cross-functional signals usable for executive decisions.

  • Metrics architecture co-ownership — co-own metrics definition and architecture with senior analytics partners.

  • Business performance deep-dives — cross-functional lens, working with your team on methodology and insights.

  • Strategic planning and forecasting — the senior analytics voice on business strategy, OKR setting, and opportunity sizing.

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • 10+ years experience in analytics, business intelligence, strategy, or consulting at meaningful scale — ideally with hands-on analytical depth and people leadership combined.

  • Demonstrated player-coach experience — managing 3+ analysts or data scientists while continuing to contribute as a senior individual contributor to strategic work. Comfortable in both leadership and hands-on analytical work.

  • Strong commercial instinct — you understand how analytics maps to business outcomes (revenue, retention, lifetime value, unit economics, conversion).

  • Strategic narrative skill — you translate quantitative measurement into executive-grade communication that drives decisions, not just describes them.

  • Senior stakeholder influence — comfortable operating with Directors, VPs, and General Managers. Diplomatic but direct.

  • Excellent SQL and fluency with BI tooling (Tableau, Looker, Metabase, or equivalent). Working knowledge of semantic-layer thinking (dbt, Cube, LookML, or equivalent).

  • Experience designing or owning a weekly business performance reporting cadence and a monthly business review architecture.

  • Comfort working in a hybrid team across time zones — explicit overlap with London and EU as a known feature of the role.

Preferred

  • B2C subscription + B2B SaaS exposure — comfortable thinking about both segments and weaving them together.

  • EdTech context.

  • AI and transformation measurement experience.

  • Prior team-building or hiring track record — bringing in talent, growing analysts, and building team-level capability.

  • Demonstrated growth trajectory — you've taken on expanded scope as you've delivered. The function is scaling; the right person will too.

  • Familiarity with analytics operating models, data-driven decision practices, or building analytics functions in fast-moving environments.

Competencies Expected at this Level

  • Strategic Thinking — plans strategy for team and projects (3-9 month horizon); anticipates issues; plans for scalability; contributes to function-level direction.

  • Communication & Leadership — tactical day-to-day team communication; conflict resolution; makes sound talent decisions (hires, performance, promotions); coaches and develops with compassion; fosters collaboration; influences senior stakeholders.

  • Critical Thinking — prioritizes given impact and effort; identifies and asks tough questions; coaches reports on data-driven decision-making.

  • Accountability — drives repeatable results at team and project level; provides clear ownership; knows when to escalate; fully committed to objectives.

  • Analytics Architecture and Design — coaches team on measurement design; sets architectural standards; owns system-level measurement conversations with key stakeholders.

  • Cross-functional Pattern Recognition — drives conversation across teams on shared patterns; coaches team members to identify and surface patterns; weaves signals into coherent narrative.

How We Work

Decision Intelligence is deliberately small and high-leverage. We are pragmatic about trade-offs, opinionated about standards, and committed to evidence over opinion. The hub is the connective layer between business teams and Executive Leadership — and as Head of Decision Intelligence, you are the connective tissue of that layer.

The function is scaling as part of broader business evolution at Busuu. The right person in this role will grow with it — expanding scope over time as the function matures.

We work hybrid across India, the UK, and the EU. The role is India-based with explicit time-zone bridging with EU/UK.
