Job summary

As an Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer and Community Banking in our Mumbai, you will build and enhance business-critical applications as part of our Global Application Development team with close partnership across North America. You will work with us in an agile environment where secure design, strong engineering standards, and operational stability are essential. You will help shape how we design, review, and deliver solutions that can adapt quickly to changing business needs.

Job responsibilities 

• Design and develop applications with a global team, contributing to end-to-end build activities and participating in peer design and code reviews.
• Embed security requirements, data/information flow considerations, and corporate architecture standards into solution designs while following project lifecycle methods and IT control policies.
• Translate business requirements and high-level designs into detailed technical designs and implementations, documenting specifications, platforms, components, and dependencies.
• Integrate solutions consistently with existing (legacy) systems to ensure reliable end-to-end functionality across environments.
• Diagnose and resolve application and system performance issues by identifying root causes and providing clear remediation recommendations.
• Own and improve business-critical applications, driving cross-functional agile delivery while proposing technical, process, and innovation enhancements.
• Execute and operate with strong engineering rigor (PMD, JUnit, performance testing, memory management) and disciplined production support (monitoring/alerting, third-party coordination, documentation, continuous learning, SDLC quality practices, estimation), including working 12:30 PM–9:30 PM IST overlap; leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist and SDLC automation tools to improve quality and speed while validating outputs through peer review, automated tests, and secure coding standards.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 5+ years of applied experience.
• Hands-on enterprise development experience with Java (Java EE/J2EE), Spring, Spring Boot, and React, including debugging and maintaining production-grade code.
• Practical experience across system design, SDLC, testing, and operational stability, with a strong focus on secure delivery expectations.
• Strong fundamentals in RDBMS concepts, PL/SQL, ORM, and basic Linux/UNIX usage.
• Proficiency with modern engineering tools and workflows including IntelliJ IDEA, Maven, Bitbucket/Git, test automation, and Jira.
• Experience with web services (WSDL/WADL) and broad awareness of automation techniques across infrastructure environments; ability to use enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation to increase the value realized from automation.
• Proven leadership, communication, and collaboration skills (active listening, clear written/verbal communication, adaptability across diverse work styles) and readiness to work 12:30 PM–9:30 PM IST for overlap with US teams.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Cloud Foundry, including cloud containers.
• Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools and practices.
• Exposure to Apache Kafka or other messaging systems.
• Banking, financial services, and insurance domain experience, plus deeper production experience with Spring Boot and React.
