Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist
Why This Role Matters
We’re looking for a Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist who can transform satellite imagery and geospatial data into actionable insights. Your expertise will play a vital role in supporting Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (EIA) and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
You will enable end‑to‑end geospatial evidence for permitting, impact assessment, compliance, restoration, and climate resilience—delivering reliable maps, dashboards, and remote‑sensing analyses that support client and regulatory decision‑making.
What Your Impact Is
You’ll analyze, curate, feed, and maintain geospatial datasets, perform geospatial analysis in both raster and vector data to identify land use, land cover, urban areas, archaeological features, and environmental receptors. Your work will inform project planning, risk assessment, and decision‑making for sustainable development.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong knowledge of remote sensing fundamentals and techniques, GIS applications and integrated spatial data collection, management and visualization skills.
- Proficiency in GIS and Remote Sensing software such as ArcGIS Platform, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, (experience with ERDAS Imagine/ENVI is welcome but not required)
- Ability to obtain, process, and interpret remotely sensed imagery and integrate data for environmental studies
- Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills, using interdisciplinary perspectives on how to use spatial data to solve environmental studies challenges
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, test and deploy field data collection applications using ArcGIS Survey123 and FieldMaps.
- Perform proper data curation, storage and management of geospatial data for allow efficient and safe project execution.
- Process and analyze geospatial data for project execution and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geospatial insights into project deliverables.
- Conduct satellite/drone/LiDAR image analysis to support ESIAs and environmental studies (from obtaining to and post-processing, analysis and development of cartographical products with results), including identifting and mapping land use, land cover, urban areas, archaeological sites, vegetation health, environmental receptors and respective change detection analysis.
- Prepare maps, reports, and visualizations for internal and client use (reports and meetings), including configuration and deployment of ArcGIS Dashboards and WebGIS applications in ArcGIS Experience Builder or StoryMaps.
- Publish map services following ERM’s internal procedures (training to be provided)
- Automate processes using Python, ArcPy, Model Builder and ArcPro tasks
- Follow ERM-internal data governance and housekeeping guidelines and practices, as well as industry best practices.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Remote Sensing, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field that includes Geoinformation as part of the curriculum.
- 3+ years of experience in remote sensing and GIS analysis
- Proficiency in GIS and remote sensing software (ArcGIS Platform, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI), especially in the following ArcGIS Platform tools: Survey123, FieldMaps, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder StoryMaps
- Spatial analysis & cartography: projections/coordinate systems, geoprocessing, spatial statistics, and publication‑quality cartography for regulatory submittals and client presentations.
- Remote sensing science: supervised/unsupervised classification; vegetation & water indices (e.g., NDVI/NDWI); time‑series change detection (integrating passive/active data (LiDAR/SAR) is desirable). Knowledge and experience on GeoAI applications, especially ESRI’s pretrained models and the AI model training process for tailored solutions and needs
- Data governance: strong habits in metadata, naming/versioning, enterprise publishing; design standards‑compliant geodatabases; manage large RS/GIS datasets.
