About the Job

The Quality Assurance Engineer, Digital Products exists to ensure that Better Cotton’s digital products are reliable, usable and ready for the farmers, field teams and supply chain partners who depend on them. The role goes beyond executing tests and raising tickets: it establishes quality practices across the product lifecycle, defines release workflows and quality gates, and builds automated testing foundations across web, mobile, portal and integration products. Combining hands-on testing with test automation, direct user engagement and AI-assisted QA workflows, the role enables product teams to release more frequently and with greater confidence without making quality assurance a bottleneck, so that the digital tools supporting field operations, supply chain, traceability and reporting perform dependably in real operating conditions in support of Better Cotton’s mission and Vision for Change.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we are targeting reducing GHG emissions from cotton production by half, big cuts in synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for

  • Plan, design and execute functional, regression, API, integration, performance and exploratory testing across the digital product portfolio, covering web and mobile applications, portals, chatbots and integrations spanning field operations, supply chain, ERP and CRM-style workflows, so that quality expectations are agreed before development begins and verified before release.
  • Establish and operate a practical Quality Lifecycle Management framework, defining release flows across development, staging, UAT and production with clear entry criteria, exit criteria, quality gates and sign-off expectations, supported by maintained test strategies, test plans and traceability between requirements, test cases and defects.
  • Build and maintain automated test coverage for critical user journeys, working with engineering and DevOps to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines so that regression testing and quality monitoring run reliably, repeatably and at increasing speed.
  • Apply AI-assisted and agent-assisted QA workflows to test-case generation, automation, exploratory testing, defect triage and documentation, reviewing AI-generated tests and defect reports for accuracy and evaluating emerging tools on measurable improvements in quality and productivity.
  • Engage directly with farmers, field facilitators, programme partners and supply chain users to understand real operating conditions, including low connectivity, mobile use and differing levels of digital literacy, and translate them into acceptance criteria, usability checks and measurable quality standards.
  • Own the defect lifecycle from identification through validation and resolution, operating a consistent bug-triage and ticketing process across product teams and working as an embedded member of agile squads to address recurring quality issues at their root cause.

Experience

the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

Essential

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience in software testing and quality assurance for web and mobile applications, including functional, regression, API, integration, performance and exploratory testing, with a track record of strengthening quality practices rather than only executing test cases.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or Appium, and with API and performance-testing tools such as Postman, REST Assured, JMeter or k6.
  • Experience defining release flows and quality gates across development, staging, UAT and production, integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, and using defect and test-management tools such as Jira.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve testing productivity, including test-case generation, automation, defect triage and documentation, with the judgement to review AI-generated output critically.
  • Experience working in international, multicultural, or mission-driven environments is an asset, as is experience of agriculture, supply chain, ERP or CRM products, or offline and low-connectivity products.
  • ISTQB or a comparable testing qualification is desirable but not required, alongside exposure to accessibility, security or localisation testing.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

Desirable

  • Experience building and maintaining automated test suites using tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or Appium, with a focus on improving test coverage, reliability and execution efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of REST API and integration testing using tools such as Postman, REST Assured and Swagger/OpenAPI, ensuring reliable data flow and system interoperability.
  • Experience embedding automated testing and quality checks within CI/CD pipelines and collaborating with engineering teams to support reliable software releases.
  • Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil or other Indian languages preferred for working with local teams, partners and field-level stakeholders.
