Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock Finance & Strategy (F&S) encompasses disciplines such as Corporate Accounting, Financial Planning, Accounting Policy, Tax, Business Management, Treasury, and Corporate Strategy.

Finance Information & Analytics (FIA), a core function within F&S, delivers the metrics that shape BlackRock’s strategy, client reach, product breadth, and financial performance. By integrating firm-wide and industry data, FIA drives advanced analytics and reporting, leveraging technology and automation to provide transparent, scalable insights. FIA also manages the firm’s proprietary market database, a critical resource supporting teams across the business.

Role Description:

The FIA group serves as BlackRock’s analytical engine, driving advanced reporting and partnering closely with Finance teams and Aladdin Engineering.

We are seeking a detail-oriented market data specialist to design, implement, and maintain technical projects related to BLK’s market database. This role will also establish standards and best practices for analytics, reporting, and dashboard development.

Candidates should have a strong background in data engineering, data visualization, analytics, finance, and asset management. Experience working with Snowflake is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Improve & maintain BLK’s industry database, executing strategic and tactical projects and partnering with business teams to ensure prompt data delivery.

  • Build new data loading processes with Python and implement updates and improvements to existing workflows

  • Complete data validation projects as needed to support the team and implement automated solutions to speed up validation requirements.

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions which support decision-making and provide actionable insights.

  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness through stringent controls and audit frameworks.

  • Understand how to structure data models, including relationships between tables, to support efficient and accurate reporting and analytics.

  • Ensure data structures are easily consumable via visualization tools such as PowerBI

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of Snowflake development experience

  • Technical Skills: 

    • Proficiency in SQL and ability to write complex queries; strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and ETL processes.

    • Strong Python skills able to independently execute projects focused on automation and advanced data manipulation.

  • Financial Services Knowledge: Familiarity with financial services industry, and Asset Management in particular

  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with data visualization and data-driven tools and technologies, e.g. PowerBI, SQL, Python

  • Experience working with market data to produce complex analyses or reports

  • Familiarity with the finance industry and asset management/financial services

  • Experience with Snowflake's cloud-based architecture is a strong plus.

  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
