Lead policy and operational work to prevent telecom and media scams: design measures, administer grants, engage industry and agencies, analyze policy issues, and advise internal teams on mitigation and regulatory responses.
[What the role is]
The Media Policy ad Content (MPC) group in IMDA ensures that media content policies and regulations are updated and remain relevant with changing media consumption patterns and advances in digital tech, and reflects societal values, maintains social cohesion and upholds public interest. Broadly, the MPC group comprises the Strategic Policy & Operations Cluster and Content & Standards[What you will be working on]
- Devise and implement new measures to further strengthen and safeguard our telecommunication and media channels against scammers
- Put up proposals and administer grants or other programs to support the industry build up capabilities to detect and disable scams
- Engage the industry to explore new ways and technology to help clamp down on scam
- Undertake robust and deep analysis of policy and regulatory issues involving scams in the telecom and media sectors in the short to medium term. Obtain multiple perspectives from internal and external stakeholders in order to develop robust and sound policy recommendations
- Work closely with other government agencies and Industry to ensure that mitigation measures against scam calls and messages are implemented and effective.
- Play an advisory role to other business units within IMDA regarding existing policy positions and new areas of policy work in the telecom and media space for scams.
[What we are looking for]
- Background in Computer Science, Engineering or Cyber-security or Public Policy. Other disciplines can be considered.
- Good understanding of online harms and scams in the telecom and media sector (technology, market, regulatory), digital economy, business and consumer concerns, social-economic environment in Singapore, international developments and public policy.
- Strong analytical abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Resourceful, highly motivated, proactive self-starter with an analytical and creative mind.
- Result and stakeholder-oriented with multi-tasking capabilities
- Independent officer who is able to work well in a team and be involved in cross-team projects
