ISEC is an ETL data processing platform that powers Worldpanel by Numerator’s UK, Portugal and Spain data delivery for various research panels measuring consumer shopping behaviour. The largest panel in the UK has been running for 30 years and provides industry benchmark data through the continuous collection of shopping trips with each of the 30,000 households that are on the panel scanning barcodes on all products purchased in each trip
Background
ISEC is a data processing platform based on Oracle, Cobol and Python that has been developed over the last 20+ years. We are looking to hire a Linux Sys Admin to help manage and administer DB and application stacks across both Production and non-Production environments in MS Azure.
Working alongside the ISEC application team and reporting into the Application Infrastructure Manager this is very much a hands-on role and as such the successful candidate will have the opportunity to steer and influence the strategy for infrastructure support, configuration and monitoring.
Role description
The Linux Sys Admin will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the existing tech stack and take ownership alongside the Application Infrastructure Manager of the ongoing design, support and administration of both the application and DB stacks across Production and Non-Production environments.
The person will report to the Application Infrastructure Manager within the Technology pillar whilst also partnering with the wider technology team in terms of strategical direction – this person will be proactive, willing to take the initiative and suggest solutions and approaches that will make a real tangible difference to the platform, the team that support it and the wider business as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Collaboratively work with the application team to meet and exceed application requirements, offering new solutions where appropriate
- Work with the Application Infrastructure Manager to define an effective infrastructure support and maintenance strategy
- Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure, including Out Of Hours support where necessary
- Design and develop infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools including regular provision of key metrics
- Create tools to help teams make the most out of the available infrastructure
- Work collaboratively across a variety of areas, balancing competing priorities and managing relationships with a range of internal stakeholders to ensure delivery of key priorities
Desirable skills requirements
- Previous experience of supporting and administering Linux servers in virtualized / Cloud environments, including Oracle DB instances
- In depth knowledge of Linux scripting language
- Knowledge of networking, security, and system architecture
- Hands-on Oracle DBA experience
- Experience installing, configuring, and supporting a wide range of services
- Ability to build and monitor services on production servers, including load balancing
- Strong influencing and collaboration skills developed working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong and independent judgement
- Experience of working in complex, cross-boundary environments
- A broad understanding of Technology (including but not limited to Applications, Development, Testing)
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills, including non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent experience of working in partnership at all levels of an organisation
