The Group: Morningstar's Quantitative Research Group creates independent investment research and data-driven analytics designed to help investors and Morningstar achieve better outcomes by making better decisions. We utilize statistical rigor and large data sets to inform the methodologies we develop. Our research encompasses hundreds of thousands of securities within a large breadth of asset classes including equities, fixed income, structured credit, and funds. The Role: As a DevOps Engineer, you will collaborate with Quant Researchers, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Data Engineers to support all Cloud & DevOps initiatives. This role requires you to improve and maintain the infrastructure that supports applications in AWS cloud environments. You will work on automating and streamlining the development and deployment processes, aiming to build and deploy more quickly and efficiently.
You are an individual who possesses strong technical skills, loves cloud technology, has good problem solving & consulting skills, and has an eye for picking up challenging opportunities. You also enjoy working with cross-functional technical teams on complex problems and are always looking to improve yourself and others around you.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines to automate the software release process.
  • Provision, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker and AWS ECS/EKS, optimizing resource utilization and deployment strategies.
  • Implement security best practices and compliance standards across the development and deployment processes to protect sensitive data and systems.
  • Work closely with software developers, QA analyst to foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure seamless product delivery.
  • Write scripts in languages like Bash, Python, or PowerShell to automate routine tasks and deployments.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to infrastructure, deployments, and performance, providing support during release cycles and incidents.
  • Design and manage disaster recovery plans to ensure system resilience and data integrity in the event of failures or disruptions.
  • Use version control systems like Git to manage code changes and collaborate with other team members.
  • Help in documenting DevOps processes and creating reports on infrastructure performance. Actively Participate in team meetings & Project meetings
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in Cloud, DevOps, and related fields, continuously improving skills and knowledge.


Requirements:

  • BS degree in engineering, computer science, statistics, mathematics or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong Understanding of Linux/Unix administration, scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash), AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, ECS, Athena, RDS, Glue, VPC etc.) and DevOps tools (Jenkins, Docker, Terraform, etc.).
  • Knowledge of various stages of software development and deployment, including coding, testing, and release.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Good communication skills to work effectively within a team and collaborate with other departments.
  • Intellectual curiosity for the world of quantitative research
  • Fluent in both oral and written English.
