The Senior Design Systems Engineer will:
- Define component architecture and implement scalable, framework-agnostic web components.
- Own and evolve major parts of the design system architecture and component strategy.
- Define, champion, and enforce accessibility standards across the design system.
- Define and lead design system adoption strategy across product and marketing teams.
- Partner with designers to define scalable patterns and component APIs.
- Establish documentation standards and information architecture for Storybook.
- Establish best practices for versioning, releases, and long-term maintainability.
- Provide technical guidance and review across consuming teams.
A successful candidate should:
- Have deep front-end engineering experience and strong system design skills.
- Be experienced in building and scaling design systems in complex environments.
- Have a strong working knowledge of WCAG and inclusive design principles.
- Be comfortable solving ambiguous, cross-team problems.
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Architect and maintain a scalable, framework-agnostic design system.
- Define CSS architecture, theming strategies, and token systems.
- Establish documentation, testing, and quality standards for components.
- Design, evolve, and govern tooling and CI/CD workflows, including Azure Pipelines.
- Guide adoption through enablement, documentation, and partnership.
- Ensure long-term system health and alignment with enterprise standards.
Experience and educational requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of professional front-end or UI engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience owning or leading a design system or shared platform.
Minimum skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Expert proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Typescript or JavaScript.
- Experience with Web Components and related libraries or frameworks (Lit or similar).
- Advanced understanding of CSS architecture, theming, and design tokens.
- Strong accessibility expertise and testing experience.
- Strong experience with Storybook and component documentation strategy.
- Experience designing modern front-end tooling ecosystems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-influencing skills.
- Actively mentors others and raises team-wide technical standards.
