Own end-to-end UI/UX and frontend implementation: design user flows, craft high-fidelity prototypes, build responsive React+TypeScript interfaces, implement scalable component architecture, integrate with REST/GraphQL APIs, optimize performance, and collaborate with backend and product teams in a regulated life-sciences context.
We’re building the next generation of conversational voice and video AI for life sciences—intelligent with 100% regulatory compliance. Our AI medical experts help pharma teams engage doctors, support patients, and unlock insights faster than ever before. We’ve just raised our seed, signed our first customers, and are scaling fast. If you're excited about building real-world AI in an early stage startup and shape not just our product, but our identity and culture —this is your moment.
We move like owners. Everyone at SynthioLabs has the autonomy and the responsibility to drive projects, challenge decisions, and push things forward. We don’t wait for permission. If you see a gap, you fill it. If you see a better way, you try it.
We ask “why” until we get to the root. We explore new ideas, research papers, every single edge case and anything that sharpens our understanding.
We use AI like a second brain. From writing code to writing docs, debugging flows to exploring new ideas, AI is part of our daily rhythm. Everyone here gets hands-on with the tools, learns how to prompt better, and treats AI as a teammate.
We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our engineering team and own the UI/UX of our product end-to-end—from first sketch to shipped code. There is no design-to-dev handoff here: you will design the interface and build it, which means every pixel you place, you also implement.
This role sits at the intersection of design and engineering. You’ll turn complex, regulated workflows into interfaces that feel simple, trustworthy, and fast, then bring those interfaces to life with React and TypeScript. You’ll work closely with product and backend teams to ship features end-to-end, with a strong focus on usability, visual craft, scalability, and performance.
This position is ideal for someone who thinks in both Figma and code, who cares as much about type, spacing, and motion as they do about component architecture and render performance, and who wants full ownership over how the product looks, feels, and works.
Design Ownership
- Own the end-to-end UI/UX design process—from user flows and wireframes to high-fidelity, production-ready mockups and prototypes
- Design and evolve our design system (components, patterns, tokens) so the product stays consistent as it scales
- Translate complex, regulated life-sciences workflows into simple, intuitive, accessible interfaces
- Make final calls on visual and interaction design, backed by user needs and product context
Implementation
- Build and ship the interfaces you design as responsive, scalable web applications using React and TypeScript
- Implement robust component architecture and state management patterns that keep design and code in sync
- Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and cross-browser performance
- Integrate with REST/GraphQL APIs and handle complex async data flows
Engineering Collaboration
- Work with backend engineers to define API contracts and data requirements
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and product planning
- Contribute to frontend best practices, tooling, and CI/CD pipelines
Innovation & Growth
- Prototype new UI patterns and interactions to improve user experience
- Stay current with design and frontend ecosystem trends, including AI/LLM-powered UX patterns
- Support occasional backend tasks if you have Python/API experience.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Experience
- 1–2 years of professional experience designing and building frontend products (in-house, agency, or startup)
- A portfolio showing production UI/UX work you designed and shipped yourself
- Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, and JavaScript (ES6+)
- Proficiency in a modern design tool (e.g. Figma) for wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design
- Solid understanding of visual design fundamentals: typography, layout, spacing, color, and interaction/motion design
- Good understanding of state management, component architecture, and API integration
Good to Have
- Experience building or maintaining a design system
- Basic backend knowledge, preferably in Python
- App development experience
- Experience with REST APIs and familiarity with LLM/AI integrations in products
- Exposure to testing frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library or Cypress
Skills
- Strong eye for visual design and obsessive attention to UI/UX and performance detail
- Ability to go from a blank canvas to a shipped, production-ready feature without a handoff
- Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities
- Clear communication and ability to work cross-functionally with product and engineering
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, iterative environments, owning ambiguity end-to-end
What Makes This Role Unique
- Own the entire design and frontend experience end-to-end—no handoffs, no waiting on someone else’s mockups
- Blend design craft with engineering rigor in a product used by real customers
- Work on modern web stacks with opportunities to touch AI/LLM-powered features
- Shape the visual identity, design system, and frontend architecture of a fast-growing platform
