Job DescriptionRole Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Cost Manager to support the delivery of high-profile commercial workplace projects within a highly regulated corporate environment. Working alongside experienced Cost Managers and Project Managers, you will assist in providing cost management services throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and procurement through to construction and project close-out.
This role offers exposure to premium workplace fit-out projects that require a strong focus on quality, governance, stakeholder management, and programme delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Planning & Budget Support
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, cost plans, and budget forecasts across various project stages.
- Support cost benchmarking and cost analysis exercises to ensure alignment with project budgets.
- Monitor project costs and assist in identifying potential cost risks and opportunities.
Procurement & Tendering
- Assist in preparing tender documentation, pricing schedules, and procurement packages.
- Support tender evaluations, commercial comparisons, and tender recommendation reports.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, and suppliers during procurement activities.
Post-Contract Cost Management
- Assist in administering project contracts, variations, and change control processes.
- Review contractor quotations and support the assessment of variation claims.
- Assist in the preparation of interim valuations and final account documentation.
- Maintain cost records, variation logs, and commercial documentation.
Cost Reporting & Financial Control
- Support the preparation of monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial updates.
- Track project commitments and expenditure against approved budgets.
- Assist with cost reconciliations and financial reporting requirements.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with project managers, designers, consultants, contractors, and client representatives.
- Attend project meetings and support commercial discussions throughout project delivery.
- Maintain clear and accurate project records and reporting documentation.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with project procedures, commercial controls, and governance requirements.
- Support internal audits and commercial reviews when required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned activities
- 2–5 years of experience in quantity surveying, cost management, or commercial management.
- Experience supporting commercial fit-out, workplace, corporate office, or interior fit-out projects is highly preferred.
- Experience within a consultancy, project management consultancy, contractor, or client-side environment is advantageous.
- Exposure to projects delivered within highly regulated or corporate environments would be beneficial.
- Good understanding of pre-contract and post-contract cost management principles.
- Familiarity with procurement, tendering, contract administration, and change management processes.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cost management software such as CostX or equivalent is an advantage.
