The Role

At Last Mile Health, we work to deploy a health worker within reach of everyone, everywhere. Are you a highly organized project manager who excels at coordinating across remote teams to drive real-world impact? If so, you may be the next Consultant, Program Management with the Africa Frontline First Initiative (AFF) team.

Last Mile Health (LMH) is looking for a Consultant, Program Management to join the Africa Frontline First Initiative (AFF), to provide cross-cutting project management support across the initiative. This role is designed to bridge the gap across key AFF workstreams, including Country Program Delivery, Advocacy & Policy, and Strategy & Design by driving seamless collaboration and ensuring teams are aligned and moving in the same direction.

The Consultant will play a hands-on role in keeping projects on track through rigorous follow-through on tasks and deliverables, consistent reporting, and strong knowledge management practices. They'll also be responsible for maintaining internal stakeholder coordination and enforcing cross-workstream norms that keep everyone accountable and connected.

This position is remote with a preference for candidates based in the EAT timezone.  

Consultancy Details

  • Project Duration: April 2026 - April 2027
  • Commitment: Maximum 32 hours/ week 
  • Estimated fees: Up to $1000 USD/ week
  • Location: Remote, EAT timezone preferred 

Scope of Work

The consultant will work on the following deliverables: 

Deliverable 1: AFF Project Management System Established and Rolled Out

  • Design and deploy a consolidated project management system providing real-time visibility across projects, funding mechanisms, countries, key partners, and workstreams
  • Standardized project management templates, workflows, and governance norms finalized, documented, and adopted.
  • 100% of cross-workstream projects managed through the established project management frameworks from the kick-off to the close-out phase
  • Design, maintain, and continuously improve master project trackers covering funding mechanism, country, workstream, deliverables, milestones, budgets, due dates, status, dependencies, and risk flags
  • Conduct quality assurance for accuracy and completeness, and in alignment with internal and external reporting requirements

Acceptance criteria: System approved by the Project Manager and in active use by all core workstreams. Master project trackers are up-to-date and in active use. Quality assurance report reviewed by the Project Manager.

Deliverable 2: Full Transition to a Proactive Asana- First Culture

  • Lead 100% organizational transition to a proactive Asana-first culture where all projects are managed through the standardized Asana frameworks
  • At least 80% of active cross-workstream projects are managed and tracked through Asana, with status health updated weekly.
  • Training delivered to all Project Leads on standardized workflows and advanced Asana use
  • Transition 100% of project workstreams to a self-driving tracker model, where automated dependencies and proactive risk-alert notifications (via Asana/Slack reminders) identify 100% of potential milestone delays at least 10 days before they occur.

Acceptance criteria: The self-driving transition is successful when 100% of cross-workstream projects have automated dependencies mapped in Asana, and the leadership team receives proactive risk-alert notifications for potential delays at least 10 days in advance, as verified by a monthly system audit.

Deliverable 3: Timely, high-quality (internal & external) reporting and funder updates

  • Coordinated the internal reporting cycles, including clear timelines, templates, and guidance for inputs from AFF team members, and active follow-up on late, incomplete, or inconsistent submissions
  • Complete synthesis from inputs across countries, providers, and workstreams, including progress and key achievements; delays, risks, and bottlenecks; corrective actions and mitigation measures; and cross-cutting themes and emerging trends
  • Complete synthesized agenda, updates, and talking points to support regular funder, key partners, and champions (Africa CDC, ECSA, and ALMA) check-ins aligned with their priorities and/or grant requirements
    Complete contributions to internal reporting (quarterly OKR progress, MERL database) and external reporting (funder, Africa CDC)

Acceptance criteria: Reports accepted by the Project Manager and used in at least one funder or key partner engagement.

Deliverable 4: Convenings & Events Coordinated and Documented

  • Planning, execution, and documentation completed for at least two major convenings or events, such as:
    • Peer learning or community of practice events
    • Advocacy or policy convenings (e.g., WHA, UNGA, CPHIA, or other regional forums)
    • country-level domestic resource mobilization and sustainability convenings
  • Deliverables include scheduling, agendas, run-of-show documents, participant coordination, and logistics support
  • post-event documentation produced, capturing key discussions, lessons learned, and follow-up actions, and contribution of insights into knowledge outputs

Acceptance criteria: Activity reports submitted and validated by relevant workstreams.

Deliverable 5: AFF Knowledge Management & Institutional Memory Strengthened

  • AFF Knowledge Hub is designed and launched as a centralized, structured repository
  • Contribution made to existing knowledge management projects
  • Priority knowledge products uploaded (e.g., country case studies, lessons learned, policy and advocacy outputs, process documentation)
  • Contributions made to at least two strategic publications, policy documents, or technical guidelines on CHW programs, such as the Continental Investment Case, CH Landscape Survey, Annual CH Scorecard, and Activity reports.

Acceptance criteria: Knowledge Hub is live and actively used by at least two workstreams.

Deliverable 6: Project Close-Out, Audits, and Handover

  • Project and funding mechanism close-out documentation completed, including handover notes and asset registers
  • Routine audits are conducted on project management and delivery processes
  • Summary memo documenting recurring issues, lessons learned, and recommended process improvements completed
  • Final consultancy report submitted

Acceptance criteria: Close-out package approved by the Project Manager and the Budget Manager.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Project Management, or Public Administration
  • Progressive years of experience in project management and public administration or public health, ideally in complex, multi-country, multi-funder programs within the African health ecosystem.
  • Power-user of Asana and Google Workspace with a knack for turning messy data into clean, actionable trackers. Ability to train others on these tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Primary Health Care (PHC),  Community Health Worker (CHW) programs, or Health Systems Strengthening programs.
  • Demonstrated success in managing internal stakeholder relationships, including ensuring prompt communication and feedback, to foster a positive and collaborative working environment
  • Proven ability to maintain thorough documentation, develop reports, and also synthesize technical programmatic inputs into clear summaries and briefs

Preferred Qualifications 

  • You have experience in Policy and Advocacy
  • You have developed experience working on Primary Health Care (PHC) or Community Health Worker (CHW) Programs, particularly with governments and diverse funding institutions.
