The Role:
Sauce Labs is looking for an Architect to lead the design and evolution of our API landscape and testing frameworks within our mobile device cloud infrastructure. In this pivotal role, you'll ensure our platform offers robust, scalable, and secure integration points for our customers while driving the adoption of cutting-edge test automation strategies. You'll be instrumental in shaping how our platform interacts with the broader development ecosystem, empowering users to build, test, and deliver high-quality mobile applications efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and Design APIs & Test Frameworks: Lead the architectural design, documentation, and implementation of highly scalable and performant APIs for our mobile device cloud. Develop and architect connectors that seamlessly integrate our platform with industry-standard test automation frameworks like Playwright, Selenium, enabling customers to run their tests efficiently.
- Drive Integration Strategies: Define and oversee integration strategies for third-party tools, services, and customer systems, ensuring seamless data flow and functionality across the Sauce Labs ecosystem.
- Promote API Best Practices: Establish and advocate for best practices in API design (RESTful, GraphQL), versioning, security, and documentation across all engineering teams.
- Enhance Testing Workflows: Lead efforts to enhance and streamline automated mobile testing workflows, focusing on improving developer productivity and enabling comprehensive test coverage for our customers.
- Collaborate on System Scalability & Reliability: Partner with operations, network engineering, and security teams to ensure API and test framework solutions are integrated into a highly available, secure, and scalable infrastructure.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide architectural guidance and conduct code reviews for development teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement in API and testing domains.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with product management to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions, specifically focusing on API capabilities and testing features.
- Dependency Management: Identify and manage technical dependencies between teams and systems, ensuring smooth integration and delivery of API-dependent features.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvements in API performance, reliability, and security, and evolve our test frameworks to adapt to new technologies and customer demands.
Required Skills:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in software development and architecture of production-grade systems.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in modern programming languages (e.g., Go, Java, Python, C#).
- Extensive experience designing, developing, and managing RESTful APIs; familiarity with GraphQL is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining scalable test automation frameworks for mobile applications, including knowledge of popular mobile testing tools and libraries (e.g., Appium, Espresso, XCUITest).
- 3+ years of experience designing and deploying applications on Kubernetes.
- Strong background in cloud architecture (GCP and AWS preferred; Azure acceptable).
- Strong knowledge of application data modeling and database design, including document-centric databases (e.g., MongoDB).
- Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, and API design best practices.
- Experience with SaaS platforms, especially in QA testing, developer tools, or enterprise applications.
- Experience with identity and access management (IAM) and role-based access control (RBAC) within enterprise systems.
Process & Collaboration:
- Experience working in Agile development environments with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across engineering and product teams.
- Experience contributing to system modernization, cloud migration, or platform refactoring projects.
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities are a plus.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time to support in-person collaboration with your team or customers, as needed on-site or within the region
