Ukhi, a greentech company based in Delhi, announced a $1.2 million seed funding round to help rid the environment of harmful plastic packaging. The company develops sustainable packaging solutions made from compostable biomaterials.
Ukhi’s technology enables it to transform agricultural waste into biopolymers. It offers a low-cost, compostable alternative to single-use plastic that combines natural plant materials derived from nettle, flax and hemp. The company’s product aims to reduce plastic pollution and prevent crop burning.
“We are excited to pioneer biodegradable and compostable packaging solutions made from agricultural waste, helping industries reduce their environmental footprint,” Priyanka Chauhan, Ukhi’s certified general manager and co-founder, said in a statement. “Our novel material research is designed to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy, positioning Ukhi as a leader in bioeconomy solutions that will transform the packaging industry.”
The funding round encompasses equity from lead investor 100Unicorns as well as debt capital from the Small Industries Development Bank of India. Ukhi will invest in scaling its production capabilities, advancing its materials research and expanding its sustainable packaging solutions across the globe.
